Meet Melanie

I wasn't raised bilingual. I learned Spanish as an adult — and while it was one of the most rewarding things I've ever done, it was also incredibly time-consuming. Learning a second language later in life opened so many doors for me: new career opportunities, deeper connections with other cultures, and a whole new way of seeing the world.

Today, I'm raising my four-year-old son with three languages. And along the way, I discovered a concept that changed everything for me: biliteracy — and the practice of translanguaging.

I love the concept of learning languages simultaneously, and not trying to make a child fit into unilingual boxes. The biliteracy movement is growing — and I believe every child deserves the opportunity to become biliterate.

That's why I created Biliteracy Bridge — to help children gain the skills and understand the similarities and differences between languages, in real time, while they are learning them. I also taught kindergarten children and education is a real passion of mine. As a parent, I am always looking for better resources to support me on this journey — and now I'm creating them for families like yours.
